In a bid to make people buy How I Met Your Mother season 9 on DVD rather than set fire to seasons 1 through 8, the showrunners have promised an alternative to the widely panned series finale.

But beware: It’s not clear how this alternative finale will look, so you could just be setting yourself up for further disappointment. A source told Variety it will be a “happy ending,” whatever that means.
